There is the idea that the best humbucker is built to mimic the renowned Gibson P.A.F. wound upon the nearly mythical Lesona coil winder. And most winders have a story to tell about how many of these renowned pickups they have personally researched and rewound, torn apart and investigated down to the most minute triviality that lends those pickups a special mojo.
I don’t have that same story to tell. While I’ve seen many original P.A.F.s and researched them and rewound them, I can only say that some were amazing and some were not. The ones I found to be amazing I have done my best to copy and I call these the Retro P.A.F.
The Retro P.A.F. is a true reproduction of the finest vintage humbucker using vintage correct parts all the way down the alloys. They are amazing pickups and I am proud to sell them for much, much less than most builders do.
The rest of my humbuckers are my own design. They are my personal take on particular tones. Honestly, there are only so many ways to wind coils of copper wire and combine those with screws and slugs and magnets. The specialty is in the slight differences in tone between pickups of a particular builder. That, and how the pickups is made and with what parts.
I do not build pickups you’ll like, I build pickups you’ll love.
