I’ve had an obsession with the Wide Range Humbucker for a long time. Whenever I have had the opportunity to play an original I am always moved by the tone.
I started modifying the re-issues a long time ago in the hopes of capturing that tone. I used the stock parts, rewound the coils, and used Alnico rods in place of the screws. I used (and still use) those modified pickups in my own gigging and recording guitars. Here’s one of those pickups in a Revel Custom guitar.
Those re-built pickups got very, very close to the vintage WRHB tone.
Now, several years later, I’ve been able to source USA made baseplates and covers and I build vintage correct bobbins and reflector plates that I in-house. All this in the continued effort to avoid buying parts from manufacturers with questionable labor practices. And now I’ve got the exact tone I’ve been trying for all these years. So…
I am thrilled to finally offer the Revel ‘Vintage ’71’ humbucker.
These are the same size as original WRHB’s and so fit perfectly in a Custom or Deluxe guitar or any guitar in which you’ll find the full-size Fender re-issue.
I wind these like the originals so both the bridge and the neck have the same number of winds and, so, the same “output.” But I will under-wind the neck upon request to help balance it with the bridge.
Additionally I offer a separate, specific under-wound neck pickup, that pairs oh-so-nicely with lower output bridge pickups or when you need a ‘Vintage ’71’ humbucker but want a little more sweetness.
I’m proud to offer these at this price. You literally cannot do better tonally or financially.
Bridge & Neck: 10.7k, Underwound Neck for Set: 9.5k
